MSM (methyl sulphynol methane) is one of the most needed elements in human nutrition and the potential benefits of consuming enough are extensive. It is the 3rd most abundant element in all living things - water, salt, msm. As a supplement powder it's very easy to take - it dissolves in water.
MSM is essential in the regeneration and nourishment of healthy cells.
MSM helps detoxify the body, assists in absorption of nutrients and oxygen, forms the flexible bonds needed by proteins, improves viscosity and circulation, stimulates the production of glutathione (the body's strongest antioxidant), stimulates production of immunoglobulin (essential component of the immune system), and generally builds good health and well being.
Almost a miracle, certainly an essential for life.
MSM as a supplement is an important tool to maintain health and is already well-known for its 'joint health' benefits with arthritis sufferers, and is also helpful for other conditions related to chronic inflammation and damage due to oxidation.
MSM, which is a metabolite of DMSO approved for use in humans, primarily impacts your health by reducing inflammation. It’s widely used as a supplement for arthritic conditions. Like DMSO, MSM also appears to improve cell wall permeability, so it can be used to help deliver other active ingredients.
MSM may be providing a missing link for optimal health, which appears to be related to sulfur. MSM is more than just a simple sulfur donor. It also affects sulfur metabolism in the human body, although it’s still not entirely clear how.
Sulphur also plays a critical role in detoxification, as it is part of one of the most important antioxidants that your body produces: glutathione. Without sulfur, glutathione cannot work.
Toxicity studies have shown that MSM is extremely safe and can be taken at very high doses. Even if you have a very rich diet full of raw vegetables and MSM-rich foods, you can still supplement and not hit that toxicity level. Clinical research studies have found that the effective amounts range from about 1.5 grams to 6 grams
MSM is essential for.....
maintaining the structure of body proteins (permeability)
the production and action of glutathione (major antioxidant)
the formation of keratin (hair and nails) and collagen (bones and skin)
the production of immunoglobulin (immune system)
the cellular reactions which convert food into energy (ATP)
the elimination of toxins from the cells (permeability)
MSM is found in fruit, vegatables and other plants but many of these foods can't supplying enough MSM, due to the production and storage practices that exist these days. Without MSM, which belongs to the same chemical group as oxygen, we could not survive, so it makes sense to include more in our diet.
Benefits of MSM.....
analgesia and pain relief
builds and maintains healthy joints through its effect on collagen
reduces muscle spasms and relieves muscle soreness
helps to normalise the immune system
easily absorbed orally and transdermally
dilates blood vessels and improves circulation
normalises bowel function and regularity
essential for the production of keratin & other proteins
needed for bile production and the formation of Taurine

Laboratory studies have indicated that DMSO's capacity as a free-radical scavenger suggests an important role for it in arthritis. The committee of Clinical Drug Trials of the Japanese Rhuemetism Association conducted a trial with 318 patients at several clinics using 90% DMSO and concluded that DMSO relieved joint pain and increased a range of joint motion & grip strength, performing a little better in more recent cases of the disease. In one MSM clinical study, patients with xray evidence of degenerative joint disease were given MSM and most had an 82% reduction in pain after 6 weeks.
In another study, involving 60 men & women aged between 40 to 82, the results were very good in 90% of the cases. Patients in this study, who were on no other medications during the trial, were given 75 mg of MSM twice daily (one teaspoon equals approx 5 gm) and reported effective pain relief in 2 to 14 days. No side effects were noted.
